Carol Brunell's Crafty Corner

Cute handmade small student pocket notebook

Spring is here!  Student Council Student Gram fundraiser with a small eraser and card that reads: "Here's an eraser so you can start your day with a clean slate!"

A great way to fill someone's day is a cute note pad with a pen and a sweet card to simply say Thank You.

Staff treat idea: Worms and Dirt!  Mini cups filled with Oreo cookie crumbs layered with chocolate pudding and topped with gummy worms!

Mrs. Moon 2nd Grade: The Lorax

Dr. Seuss' The Lorax is cute and fun way to get the students excited about the book and movie.  So we decorated our classroom door and did a writing project!

Mrs. Moon 2nd Grade: Valentine's Mailbox

A great Valentine’s Day craft for the students is this super cute mailbox to store their cards from friends.  I also gave my students this super easy Valentine's Card and attached a pencil.

Mrs Moon 2nd Grade: Seat anyone?

Great Crafty Idea: I made seating for students out of crates.  These are perfect to sit around the room to copy things off the walls or to pull small groups to read.

Inside they keep clipboards, white boards, expo markers, erasers, etc.

Mrs. Moon 2nd Grade: Have You Filled a Bucket?

Book:  Have You Filled a Bucket Today?: A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids by Carol McCloud, David Messing in Books

Based on the book, my students fill each others buckets with notes of encouragement.

Mrs. Moon 2nd Grade: Giants vs Patriots

I like to connect student writing with current event interests such as the Super Bowl's Giants vs. Patriots..."What's your prediction?"

Mrs. Kidd's 2nd Grade: Cookie Monsters!

"Smart Cookies" is the theme and incentive program in our classroom.  Students learn that to be a "Smart Cookie" they must be Good Listeners, Good Thinkers, and Make Connections from one lesson to another.  Every time a student demonstrates one of these elements, they get a "One Smart Cookie" ticket with their name on it.  They love seeing their tickets posted on our bulletin board.  Sometimes it's a problem keeping them from trying to find one more connection or thought.  What a problem!

To inspire my students to read, I have set Points Goals and Comprehension Goals using Accelerated Reader.  Students move themselves up the chart and once they reach both goals, they receive either a Cookie Monster cupcake or a special cookie.  And boy!!! Do they want that cupcake!!!

13 Kids anxious to get their hands on a cupcake and eat with the Cookie Monster. What Smart Cookies!
